There's only one Old School Fitness

When I first arrived at Old School Fitness in mid June 2014 to talk with Anthony about creating a video for his marketing, within minutes I decided I needed to train there too. I say I needed it because I'd been searching for a way to get back in shape that didn't involve going to the Y and working out by myself. That's boring.

The atmosphere at Old School Fitness is contagious in a good way. Everyone is there to not only work their asses off, but to have a good time doing it too. We've all become friends and look forward to sweating together every day...it's what gets me out of bed so early...though I do have the choice of later classes...I like the crew at the 5:45am class. No way would I ever be able to work at that intensity day after day on my own. No way would I be in as good a shape as I've been since I trained for Ironman in 2001...I may be in even better shape.

They threw away the mold when they made Anthony.  He's Mr Old School...a throwback to a time when men really knew how to throw a punch. He's in two martial arts Hall of Fames...a disciple of Bill “Superfoot” Wallace and the legendary Joe Lewis, two of the best American martial artists EVER. Anthony teaches everyone how to eat “clean” and when you do, the pounds simply drop off your body.

Oh, and the film was fun to make too...everyone loved participating. You can feel the positive vibes from the group as you watch. A lot of people lost a lot of weight...eating clean and healthy...no diets in this program...watch the video and see for yourself...then go visit, sign up and get your fat ass off the couch. Excuse my french.

2012 BMW Drive for Team USA

The London Summer Games have just begun and a what a great program BMW has created to give anyone a chance to compare BMW against Mercedes and Audi AND find a way to donate to the US Olympic team via a test drive all at the same time. The event was held at BMW Flemington on rt 31 Friday and Saturday July 20th and 21st.  On hand was Ervin Hall, one time World Record holder at  the 110 Hurdles and Silver medalist at the 1968 Mexico City Summer Games.

What a joy. Shooting art in one of New Jersey's finest art museums. Our first film is called "Claybodies" and is a very special exhibit displaying the work of 14 different artists.

CinematicEye shoots Triathlon Promo

Jackrabbit Sports and Paceracing are gearing up for the triathlon season with the Jerseyman Triathlon Festival Weekend on May 21, 22. They're expecting hundreds of athletes and triathlon fans from all over the area...in particular New York City, where Jackrabbit sports is providing transportation for NY triathletes to come out and compete.

CinematicEye will be there to shoot both days and create a film of the entire weekend. We're going to have three cameras to capture the events, a remote helicopter for aerial shots and a motorcycle camera to capture the bike and run course. Every athlete that registers will get a video...

Cinematiceye at the Hunterdon Art Museum

Cinematiceye is proud to announce that it is now the official videographer for the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton, NJ. The museum has never had video as part of it's website or promotional campaign. Now, visitors to their website will be able to see videos of art openings, showcases, interviews with artists, and exhibitions. Plus promos of upcoming events as they happen.

Currently the museum has its winter exhibition open to the public. "Claybodies: Reinterpreting the Figures", "Useless Tools" by Sarah Stengle - both exhibits open thru June 12 and lastly "Mindscapes" by Marzie Nejad open through April 3. Hurry to catch it before it closes.

The museum is also close to completing it's outdoor patio extension and it will become a terrific venue for wedding receptions with the river, water fall and the famous Red Mill in the background.

We begin shooting Wednesday.

Tip #2 Shade Your Lens

Nothing will deteriorate image quality faster than sunlight shining directly on to the front of your lens. To give you a comparable example, you know how it feels when you walk out of a darkened movie theater into direct sunlight? Everything looks sort of washed out and icky. That can happen to your camcorder too, if you don't take steps to protect its "eyes."

The best bet for preventing lens flare is a custom lens hood designed by your camera manufacturer. If your camcorder doesn't accept a lens hood, then you can use your hand to block the harmful rays of the sun. But that can be awkward if you're taping without a tripod.

Tip #1 Limit your light sources

Your eyes and brain can quickly adapt to mixed lighting situations -- such as tungsten, daylight, and fluorescent -- but your camcorder has a much more difficult time. fluorescent lights often cause a greenish cast, while tungsten makes things orange-ish; even good ol' daylight can color your scene blue if you're in the shade or next to an open window.

How the heck do you deal with all of that?

The best solution is to try to limit your light sources, and then use your camcorder's white balance setting adjust for the dominate light source. So if you're indoors with lots of light streaming in the windows and bright fluorescents overhead, then either turn off the fluorescents and balance for the daylight, or pull down the window shades and adjust for the overhead lighting.

Once you start thinking about mixed lighting sources, you can take steps to avoid those situations. When you can't, try to limit the different types of illumination and adjust your white balance accordingly.

CINEMATICEYE teams up with PACERACING

We are happy to announce that CINEMATICEYE has signed a deal with PACERACING, New Jersey's premier Sports Event company for the 2011 season. We're contracted to produce films for five of it's sports weekends.

Mike Nusbaum, race director and promoter in conjunction with JackRabbit Sports have seven wonderful races planned. Plus a new state of the art timing system that allows family and friends to track athletes anywhere in the world while they're competing, texts splits and race results instantly to phones. They're the only sports event company on the east coast that has this advanced a system.

PaceRacing's Triathlon season kicks off the weekend of May 21st at Spruce Run Reservoir in Clinton New Jersey with a Sprint triathon on Saturday and a Half Iron on Sunday. We plan to have a remote helicopter capture the swim start. Three cameras cover all the action..even a motorcycle camera to capture the bike and run legs. PACERACING is also planning on giving every athlete that competes a free download of the final film...something no other race company does.

Video for the web is hot. A compelling video on a home page holds visitors longer and significantly increases the probability that a sale will occur.

This is nothing new to Zidster, an online business pages company that hosts hundreds of small businesses online. What is new is that CINEMATICEYE and Zidster have joined forces. We are now the official video production company for Zidster and we couldn't be happier.

Meet our Newest Client

Meet our newest client. Ron.

Ron is a health advocate for horses, dogs and cats and he has a message he wants to deliver to all pet owning humans. His message is: "MASSAGE IS GREAT AND WE LOVE IT"... It's one of the very best ways you can show your horse, dog or cat that you really love them.

They have aches and pains too. Especially when they get older and it gets harder and more painful to move around each day. Massage, especially when it's performed by their specialist, JoAnne Meyer Hererra, a proud member of the Clinton Business Group, does absolutely wonderful things to their body.

So we've been hired by Ron's company, Rubbing Elbows to make a video and demonstrate the amazing effectiveness of massage on a horse... and a dog...those little guys REALLY love it too.

There's no reason why an older pet has to suffer from old age or injury. There is a way to help them.

Triathlon Night at Pete's Bike Shoppe

Whenever you put a large group of triathletes in a room full of new bikes ( at Pete's Bike Shoppe in Flemington NJ - mixed with tons of buzz about the upcoming triathlon season, you have a toxic mix of raw athleticism and the kid in the candy store.

We were there to capture it all and bang out a simple video for Mike Nusbaum of PACERACING to push the highlights to all the folks who were and weren't there in person last Tuesday evening.

Seeing some of those incredible tri bikes from Trek and cool wet suits almost makes me want to start training again. Then again, the triathlon world hasn't missed me since my last race in 2002... so why push it?

Triathletes are Weenies in the Water

What's the matter with today's triathletes? Just the thought of a little bump from nature during the swim absolutely freaks them out.

A couple weeks ago, I made a very tame poster for Mike Nusbaum and his JerseyMan Iron Swim being held May 7 at Spruce Run Reservoir. It was a nice picture of a beach and a tiny wave starting to recede. The feedback was that the poster looked too menacing and that they wanted a kinder gentler poster that would suggest the event was friendlier...

I quickly responded with the poster included in this entry...thankfully, my triathlon days are over.

The 2010 Clinton Christmas Parade

We received a last minute call from Annie at the Addicted Jeans Store on Main Street, Clinton around 12:30 pm Friday afternoon to video tape her mother in the Clinton Christmas parade at 6pm. Her mom, Mary, has been Santa's elf in the parade since 1987 when the parades began and she wanted a video of her mom riding on Santa's AND a video of the parade itself. Tracy and I covered the parade, her mom putting on makeup and getting dressed and all the characters getting ready at the nearby Presbyterian church... lots of " people getting ready" in the video, plus Saint Ann's of Hampton Bagpipers warming up...it was a wonderful night to be out with a camera.

Hunterdon Half Triathlon Feature COMPLETED

Round Valley reservoir was the site of this Half Iron distance Triathlon. It's a beautiful lake and we shot a lot of great scenic shots which were used in the scenic open of the film.

The race was staged by Mike Nusbaum and his paceracing.org and NJMultisport race event companies.

We also expanded the use of our HD Hero camera, mounting it on the top of a long pruning pole to get the tree shots around the transition area. We had one of the swimmers wear it for the beginning of the swim and we also placed it on a bicycle helmet as well. It was a very long day and quite a different vibe from the Olympic distance triathlon we shot in Oxford NJ the previous month...in the longer races, the athletes spread out a lot more and makes it harder to cover with just two cameras. Next year, we go to three cameras, the HD hero, an assistant and a motorcyclist for the road shots instead of our fat van.

Kristin and Ben

I wasn't sure after coming home from this wedding whether I'd have enough good footage to make a 10 minute film, much less a 15 min film. Ben and Kristen opted out of the standard bridal and groom prep which meant cutting off several hours of shooting Kristin's makeup, hair, dress, flowers, rings etc...they also opted out of the traditional dances - the father daughter and son mother dances... plus, the bridal party lost me on their way to the photo shoot location after the ceremony... so I didn't have those shots either. Fortunately, the photographer, who was also a family friend, did shoot it and I've incorporated those shots instead. It works nicely, actually...so this film is an example of shooting just the ceremony and reception...fortunately, all those "technical" details didn't stop this gang from having a wonderful day...despite us not being everywhere...the reception typically is our favorite part of the day... everyone is well oiled and lets their hair down on the dance floor. It was quite a party.

Soccer is Cool

OK, Ok..it's not that kind of video...it's a highlight video for the North Hunterdon High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team. Thanks to the parents and the coaches, I was given the opportunity to shoot two games and two practices. The girls really wanted a video of the 2010 season and they got one. When I presented the video at their dinner banquet, they started howling from the second shot and didn't stop until it was completed, 12:38 later. ..congratulations to the 2010 girls varsity soccer team....and thanks for letting me share the end of your season.

Bridal Show at the Holiday Inn

Bridal Shows are a hoot. A fashion show, great food, dancing, music and lots of brides. This was my first networking joint venture with Peter Gallotta from Infinity Soundz and Dana Lane of Dana Lane Photography. The idea was to create a video of us at the show and send it out to all the brides we met as an additional reminder of who we are. The concept is not new and works very well: offer brides one stop shopping with all the major services under one roof...what a handsome bunch of wedding pros...

Kelly and Mark

Here is a short wedding teaser which I call an NDE..or next day edit. Sometimes it takes months to turn around the full version of the film and this gives family and friends something to look at in the meantime. Even in this short 69 second video, you can see that these folks had a wonderful time.

2011 Pace Series Promo

Triathletes begin planning what races they're going to train for in 2011 as early as NOW. Here's a 76 second promo for Mike Nusbaum and his paceracing organization to email out to the hundreds of local athletes all over the area about his big, wildly popular 2011 races.

If you're a triathlete or thinking about trying a triathlon next year, go to paceracing.org and sign up for one of Mike's races. You'll be very glad you did. Of course, we shoot all of Mikes events and next year, every athlete who enters the race will get a video as part of the entry...who else does that?

Zion Lutheran Church is FINISHED

Bill, Feedback from the video is overwhelmingly positive from both pastors and the rest of the committee. Lots of "wows", "moving", "very powerful", and my sister cried when she saw it. -Colin Brokaw, Zion Lutheran Church


After shooting two services, one picnic, a vegetable garden, eight interviews, 30 minutes of packing up cars with food and supplies and an hour shooting the beautiful sanctuary and another hour shooting exterior scenery, we've finally completed the new Zion Lutheran Church "Come Home to Zion" film for the home page of their new revamped website. Final length is 6:07.

The film is in two parts. Part 1 was scored with music from the film "Letters from the Altar" by Colin O'Malley, a beautiful orchestral piece. Part 2 we used the cut "He Reigns" by the Newsboys to capture the life and spirit of the congregation at it's annual summer picnic.

The only sad event in the entire experience was the passing of one of the congregation who happened to be one of the featured interviews in the middle of the film. They asked us to do a re-edit, removing the interview out of respect for his family and friends.
